Internet Shopping Guide to Stylish Plus-Size Clothing: Sizes 12 +
Let's Talk Fashion
The opening bars of
Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl"
hushed the murmuring crowd, and the show was on!
Beautiful models began to emerge, flaunting their curves and
showing off hot fashion for full-figured divas. Styles
were a mixture of wild, runway fantasy and wearable ready to
wear. From poolside chic to evening glamour, collections
paraded by, celebrating the art of dressing well no matter
what your size.
Tartan Plaid Punk Skirt
Plus Model: Mia Amber
Designer: Size Queen
sizes up to 8X, the designer behind Size Queen, Bertha
Markowicz is true to her premise "when large just isn't
Styles were exuberant, sassy and over the top. Taffeta
plaids were accessorized with roller-skates and
lollypops. Curves were accentuated with puffy skirts,
bustles and bows. Panels of lace and chiffon made
eclectically styled car wash skirts topped by bustiers.
Fabrics mixed in wild riots of color. Fishnet stockings
peeked out of the tops of heavy military boots.
These are clothes meant to make an impact. Punk styles
that say "I am who I am - take it or leave it." and make
no apologies for the size of the body they swathe. Think
Hot Topic and Torrid .... super sized.

|Michelle's of New York
Michelle's of New York isn't a designer, but
rather a retailer on Long Island that has the
atmosphere of an exclusive Manhattan boutique
and goes out of their way to pamper their curvy clients.
Bringing three designers familiar to Elegant
Plus readers: Igigi, Size Appeal and Kiyonna to
the runway, Michelle's presented fashions they
regularly stock. Receiving strong, well deserved
applause from the crowd, these highly wearable,
modern clothes are available up to sizes 4-5X.
My favorite outfits included a Kiyonna "Vintage
Dress" in sky blue with white lace details and
an Igigi solid wrap top in pink paired with a
Size Appeal "Expose Skirt" in plum with floral
Igigi makes some of the hottest eveningwear in
plus-sizes right now, and Michelle's has it. The
"Athena" beaded dress in plum and the black off the
shoulder "Empire Waist" cocktail dress with bell sleeves
(at left) were stunning coming down the runway - better
in person than any photographs can capture.

A traveling designer with Dangerous
Curves.... the Tour!, BGU (Big Girl's United) has
been featured in the upscale Black Elegance
Magazine. One of the strongest collections
presented, BGU is dedicated to full-figured women
who like to look current and chic and unites women
of all ethnic backgrounds.
Shapes were soft and
feminine for summer, using delicate chiffons to play
up curves in whimsical "Fairy Skirts" and
sequin accented baby doll tops, curvaceous trumpet
skirts and floral kimono tops. A watercolor
palette mixed with luscious sherbet and citrus
tones. Clean white provided the perfect foil, a nice
change from "big girl" black. A peach trench
coat displayed a more structured design while
maintaining the soft femininity of the collection.
