As we head into fall, holiday parties and social
occasions are right around the corner.
This is one of the most important seasons for
plus-size dresses. While
most occasions aren't formal enough to need a
cocktail dress, looks still tend to be softer
and dressier than styles worn for work.
Fall weddings are a classic occasion with guests
often looking for appropriate outfits and
Homecoming dances are usually more
formal, but some may choose a less dressy frock.
Thanksgiving dinner, usually spent with family
and friends, can be casual or more dressed
depending on the family tradition. More
and more families are taking vacations and
cruises away from home for the holiday and
letting someone else do the cooking.
Whether it's a meal with extended family or with
friends, out at a restaurant or carving
the turkey yourself, special occasion dresses
can add a little more festiveness to the
celebrations. Holiday office parties are
often not far behind.
Fall 2014 Trends
This year the color palette is predominantly
cool, dominated by purple, wine red, hints of
blue, and rich teal green. Classic
black is always a favorite. Patterns
continue to be an important statement, with
subtle tone-on-tone prints creating richly
textured looks in jacquard and lace overlays.
Winter florals are promising to be big, with
cabbage roses in bold designs easily carried off
by more voluptuous figures. Digital prints are a
fresh, youthful choice. Colored laces are
continuing in popularity from last year, with
classic velvet in more casual silhouettes coming
Hem lines are dropping, although some younger
women still like to show off their gams.
Fit and flare silhouettes with vintage details
such as high, illusion necklines and sleeves mix
with easy shifts and body conscious sheaths.
Modern classic women will want to choose simple
pumps to finish the outfit, while those with
funkier personal styles may choose to add
boots, or booties to the ensemble.
